Smiling in a dream

Of course, Child
it is difficult to look upon the sun
after having been cooped in the shade
covering your face is only natural.
The warm sensation on the skin is unfamiliar
as is the harsh light on the eyes.
Perhaps the glow it casts invokes fear
in those so very used to the company of shadows.
Comfortable in the chill and accustomed to the
darkness.
Neither is better though the experience of both
may bring a slight upturn of the lips in a dream
having experienced one is the only way
to appreciate the other.
Though coming to understand that both are within
rather then external
is what broadens the beeming mouth
in the peace of the night.
