An occupied mind

Give me peace
the space to sit in silence
and lament.
a reprieve from this routine.
yes, it is indeed impossible to
stick my nose up from my book
excruciating to have voices interrupt
my furious scribbles.
are you not exhausted?
does this existence not fray your nerves
and force you to grind your teeth in your sleep?
I must then commend you and offer my condolences
in the same Breath
because to be at ease with the mundane
is to forgo the wonder of the midnight sky
coupled with the splendor of the stars
thus leaving a black painted wall
in the place of heaven’s gates
witnessing souls become blinded by the darkness
unable to obtain their endless certainty
such thoughts cause my mind to ache
and my soul to quieten
so forgive my uninterested manner
I am faced with the destinies of the night
and the grandeur of the wonderers.
